What is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program?

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program provides assistance to eligible low-income households with the goal of managing and meeting their immediate home heating and/or cooling needs.

Who is eligible for this program?

  • You must be a resident of California.
  • You need financial assistance with home energy costs. Eligibility for services may vary depending on sources of income and other factors. View LIHEAP Income Eligibility Guidelines.
  • If you or a family member participate in certain other benefit programs, e.g. CalFresh, SSI, CalWORKs, you automatically meet the eligibility requirement.

How to apply for the LIHEAP program?

  • Call 2-1-1 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Search on www.211ca.org to find local resources.
